Campus & Community

Our Campus. Frostburg State University is located in the beautiful Appalachian highlands of Western Maryland. Our Frostburg campus covers 260 acres in the city of Frostburg, a Historic Main Street community.

FSU not only shares our hometown name of Frostburg but also is intricately connected to all that our location offers our students for living and learning. We are proud to be in—and part of—the community of Frostburg, and we ensure that our students take advantage of our thriving and welcoming city and county.

Hometown comforts.  Frostburg, Maryland, is a vibrant small town with a population of about 9,000 and a bustling Main Street district. Founded in 1812, Frostburg has maintained a tight sense of community while embracing the cross-cultural interests and entrepreneurial spirit that mark it as a modern college town.

Within walking distance from campus, you will find restaurants, cafes, pizza shops, and convenience and specialty stores. Free shuttle buses can take you to nearby malls, grocery stores, and other attractions.

Local businesses, FSU’s Student Government Association, University Police and Frostburg City Police have teamed up to enhance the campus and community and provide a safe environment.

Our Region. The Western Maryland region is rich in both history and outdoor activities. Students can enjoy nearby recreational areas, including Rocky Gap, New Germany, and Deep Creek Lake State Parks, which offer camping, boating, swimming, hiking, and skiing. From its location in the mountains of Allegany County, Frostburg is within two hours of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh.

Welcome Neighbors! FSU is proud to be an active member of the town and regional community. We invite all of our neighbors, visitors, and friends to join in our many campus activities, which range from cultural festivals and musical performances to athletics, theatre, workshops, exhibits and more.
